Destiny 2 goes free to play and several of its expansions can be played for free

Destiny 2 will be free to play forever, but the new expansions will be paid. The game is getting a sizable formula change now that Activision can't poke their noses into it.

After the failure that was Destiny 2 and seeing how players left even if they put it free, Bungie cut ties with Activision and now they are the owners of the franchise. Now that separation is going to materialize in the game as the next expansion comes out in September.

Destiny 2 will be free to play and will be more RPG than shooter

In a recent streaming after showing the catalog of Google Stadia, Bungie has shown what the new phase of Destiny 2 will be like as a title that can be played for free. In September, the game will leave Activision's Battle.net and will be on Steam. But fear not because it has been confirmed that the advance can be transferred between all available platforms. That means that we can continue our game on Xbox One on Google Stadia.

The game will receive a renewed focus on PvP and they will try to place more importance on RPG elements such as stats and abilities instead of making it focus on getting more and better weapons. Armors will have more customization options. Bungie regrets distancing himself from the MMORPG genre that Destiny was good at, but now embraces it.

But the most important thing is that it will be a free to play game, and we will be able to play the base game Destiny 2 for free along with the first expansions it received. This version will be renamed Destiny 2: New Light. They will charge us to play expansions like the imminent Shadowkeep. It will not be necessary to have all of them to play and we can simply buy the ones that interest us. Very good news for the game, which with these changes will become much more attractive, even for those who previously did not have much interest in the game, but now that it is practically a different game it would be convenient to give it a second chance.
