Dota 2 is losing players alarmingly

After having a successful 2019, players are starting to abandon Dota 2 en masse. The average number of players has returned to what the game had before its rise in popularity.

The game surpassed the barrier of one million unique players in 2016, and in 2019 they surpassed it again. But they have not been able to maintain that figure and have returned to 2013 levels.

There are many players, but there are many less than before

What are these figures? As reported by Dotesports, in the last 30 days, Dota 2 has dropped from an average of 385 players worldwide, to a maximum of 000. Those declining figures have not occurred since late 627.

Dota 2

In context, we are talking about a game that is one of the mainstays of Valve, promoting it aggressively on Steam. But for some reason the numbers haven't kept up after a spike in popularity in early 2019.

It would be easy to say that the MOBA bubble has already been punctured, and for example we have even League of Legends It is diversifying its universe with the Teamfight Tactics mode and releasing titles from other genres but within another universe: one of fighting, several of adventure, one of cards, a clone of Diablo ... It may also be that many low-level players are abandoning it not finding the game attractive and with it an environment has been created in which only experts can play comfortably.

There are many reasons why players have been leaving the game. We imagine that Valve wants to alleviate this drop in users before relegating Dota 2 to only have maintenance updates. Especially since it was one of his big bets and it is still one of his biggest sources of money even if only thanks to the competitive spectrum.
