E3 2022 would not even have a digital version

A few weeks ago, the official announcement came out that E3 2022 would not be held in person. The lack of any mention of a version with a networking website and multiple streams of announcements spread across several days led some to believe there might be a digital version, although now everything points to that not happening either.

All this speculation comes from Jeff Grubb of VentureBeat, who went so far as to say in a YouTube video that even the digital edition of E3 2022 would be canceled. Although there's no official cancellation, he claims that everything surrounding E3 2022 " is a huge mess ."

In the absence of E3, Summer Games Fest will play

Last year, the ESA attempted to offer a digital version of E3 2021 through a website that many found inadequate and offered little incentive to participate. This negative user experience may lead them to reconsider the digital E3 project, but such a project requires significant time and cannot be undertaken with such limited operational capacity.

If it does not happen, it is possible that at least the console manufacturers, Microsoft, Sony and Nintendo, will make their streams in the summer with news for the future. There is also Geoff Keighley's Summer Games Fest, which after a first year with problems, in its second edition concentrated the announcements and as a final climax to the main presentation, it showed Elden Ring.

It's highly likely that if E3 2022 doesn't go ahead, even as a digital event, alternatives will emerge and the announcements will be spread across other digital or physical events. Nothing currently prevents E3 2023 from taking place , which should be the first to implement changes that were leaked regarding changes planned for the 2020 edition.
