Silent Hills was going to take place in one place, and Junji Ito hadn't designed anything when it was canceled

Silent Hills was going to be a much more limited experience, much like PT. The horror mangaka did not work on the game before canceling development.

The cancellation of Silent Hills was one of the biggest recent stories because its concept for a new installment of the franchise was extremely interesting. Hideo Kojima, Guillermo del Toro and Norman Reedus together in a high caliber project. But Konami canceled the game without showing anything of it and many still hurt.

In a recent public appearance at the Toronto Comics Art Festival, horror manga artist Junji Ito commented on his contributions to the game. It was never officially announced that Junji Ito was going to be in the development of Silent Hills. It became known when Guillermo del Toro commented on Twitter months after its cancellation that the mangaka was going to be involved.

But Junji Ito did essentially nothing for the game and there are no sketches or preconceptions, as the game was canceled by Konami before Hideo Kojima and his team could work on it after finishing Metal Gear Solid V: The Phantom Pain. The mangaka had never played any video game before, but despite this he was a fan of Hideo Kojima and Guillermo del Toro, who invited him to a casual meeting. In it they talked about the game and then went to karaoke and to see Pacific Rim because it had been released in Japan in August 2013.

The game was going to have a very narrow focus, it would be located in a single place and terror was going to be constantly in front of the player; elements that would fit perfectly with the mangaka's horror style. With these statements and some knowledge of the author's works, we can speculate that the name change to Silent Hills would mean that the game was going to take place in a single building, such as a huge residence called Silent Hills and that it would be quite similar to PT
