Xbox Game Pass increases player interest in console games
That Xbox Game Pass allows numerous full games to be played at no additional cost to the gamer is beneficial for the games. In the long run it makes games sell and raise more money than without being in the service.
With the Xbox Game Pass, many wonder what the benefit is for non-Microsoft companies of putting games on a service that allows full games to be played without limits. As with PlayStation Plus, it is feared that they will devalue the price of the games, but in the end they end up reporting net benefits.
Gamers are more interested in Xbox Game Pass franchises
It's easy to think that Microsoft would benefit from having their games on Xbox Game Pass from launch: they add value to a service exclusive to their console. But for a company like Activision or Ubisoft, putting their games may seem like a bad idea. But it is the opposite since this way they get to expose their games to more players according to a recent report.
Xbox Game Pass has succeeded in increasing playtime and the number of games a gamer plays. They play 20% longer and play 40% more games, presumably due to having more variety of titles to play. The titles also see almost double the number of players in their user base, essential for titles with a strong focus on online content.
But now comes the important thing: game sales. Analysts say that new game bookings have increased 25% and a franchise now sells 10% more than before entering Xbox Game Pass. This is because having a first installment on a service generates interest for the sequel and people don't want to wait for them to put the game on the service.
