Ex-BioWare developers say all Anthem content shown at E3 2017 was fake

Former BioWare developers who worked on Anthem note that the game differs greatly from the original game because of the Frostbite graphics engine.

The launch of Anthem has not been anything good and a large number of copies of the game have been returned. BioWare seems to be that initially it did not weigh in the game like a 'shooter with loot'. The Frostbite graphics engine would have presented a lot of problems during development. According to ex-BioWare developers, the whole thing would have been a company scam and nothing said was true. At least this is what have counted in Kotaku.

BioWare reportedly lied about Anthem development, ex-developers say

Initially, the Anthem game should be called Beyond. Nor does it seem that it was going to be a Shooter, it would be a multiplayer title based on action and survival. The game devised has little to do with this game where the main mission is to find boxes to improve the character.

Jason Schreier, a journalist who has published this information, explains the original idea of the game. It seems that the original theme of the game was for players to enter a city and go on expeditions with their friends, while trying to survive. For this the players would use robotic suits and fight with melee monsters. As we see the original idea of the game was to try to survive, not to loot. A title that would also feature random dynamic events, something that would improve the survival aspect of the game.

“The idea was that there were a lot of levers that you could pull internally so that different events would happen at all times. You would be out there somewhere, and a thunderstorm would happen randomly, and you would have to survive it. We had an early demonstration of this where the environment was dynamic and by pulling the levers we were able to change it from summer to winter to fall. You would see how the snow fell to the ground, fell on the trees ... It was a technology that really worked and could be implemented "

Discarded for unknown reasons

Those relevant features seem to have been discarded because of Frostbite, the game's graphics engine. Developers who have spoken with Schreier have noted that Frostbite presented a lot of obstacles. It appears that the Anthem developers have encountered the same issues as Mass Effect: Andromeda and Dragon Age: Inquisition while creating the games.

“Frostbite is like its own graphics engine with all the problems that it entails, it is poorly documented, hacked, etc., with all the problems of a third-party graphics engine. Nobody you work with actually designed it, so you don't know why this works like that or why it's called that, ”says developer 1.

“Part of the problem was that you could do enough in the engine to hack it and show what could be achieved, but then getting the investment to actually do it took a lot longer, and in some cases you'd run into a brick wall. Then you would realize: "Oh my gosh, we can do this only if we reinvent the wheel, which is going to take too long." Sometimes it was difficult to know when to stop and run, ”explains Developer 2.

“If you can hack it, you do it, instead of fixing it properly,” said a third developer who worked on Anthem and continued, “I'd say the biggest problem I had with Frostbite was how many steps did you need to do something basic. With another engine I could do something myself, maybe with a designer. Here is a complicated thing ”, has said the developer 3.

“It's hard enough making a game. It's really hard to make a game where you have to struggle with your own set of tools all the time, ”said developer 4.
