The sequel to Breath of the Wild will be Tears of the Kingdom and will be released on May 12
The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild was one of the biggest releases in Nintendo's history , and we can say that without exaggeration. It revived the series' image in the public eye, introduced numerous new gameplay concepts, and helped sell millions of Nintendo Switch units and was the last Nintendo game released for the Wii U.
After its enormous success, although it was not a sure thing, a direct sequel was expected; something that has happened a few times in the series; or a game that mimics the style on a new map. It was finally announced at E3 2019, but information has been given in a trickle, until today, that a specific release date and a name have been given.
Tears of the Kingdom is the name of the sequel to Breath of the Wild
In a Nintendo Direct that has aired, the final surprise was the new trailer for the sequel to Breath of the Wild. It could be expected that a trailer would come out this year, because the game was scheduled to be released in 2023, after a few delays.
In said trailer, although little gameplay and news could be seen, it was possible to see both the release date and the name of the sequel to Breath of the Wild. This sequel to The Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild will be called The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom, and its release date will be May 12, 2023.
It has been announced for Nintendo Switch, and there are rumors that it could come out along with a revision of the console with more power, but these types of rumors have always been denied. Since it will be released in May of next year, the game will be released without being able to do a pre-launch promotion during E3, if it ever happens.
With all this in mind, we can expect that in the months leading up to its release, most likely after the start of the new year, we'll see new trailers and even a Nintendo Direct dedicated to showcasing how this title improves upon what we experienced with Breath of the Wild. So, there are about eight months left until the release of The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom , although there could be a last-minute delay.
