Leaked development of a remake of The Last of Us for PS5

Bloomberg's Jason Schreier has leaked that they are making a remake of the first The Last of Us. It has come out with a report on the future of Sony in video games.

Yesterday an article was published in Bloomberg that shows the problems that Sony studios are facing in the new direction that Sony is taking with the PS5. That direction wants to focus exclusively on games that have that blockbuster and blockbuster aspect, leaving aside the smaller games. An example of this is that it has given the green light to a remake of The Last of Us.

Remake of a remastered game

Development began with the creation of an independent team of 30 Sony workers who came together in 2007, which started the remake project of The Last of US in 2013 for PlayStation 5. Even though the PS4 had only recently come out, they knew that a remake of a huge game was going to take a long time to develop, and with such a small team.

Sony never acknowledged the creation of that team, nor did it give them official support or help to grow. Not even a code or official name was created for that group of workers. The development of the remake of The Last of Us for PS5 was entirely derived from Naughty Dog as they were the creators of the franchise, and they are working on it despite the fact that it has not been officially announced for now.

That treatment of somewhat small studios, according to Schreier, is a symptom of Sony's new direction for the PS5: No small teams or medium-sized projects. All games should be comparable to blockbuster movies, and development teams have to be focused to be brought more efficiently. A change in philosophy that could end up making the console catalog much more scarce over time.
