Gollum from The Lord of the Rings will have his own video game with events not told in the books or movies
The character of Gollum will portray a video game made by the creators of Deponia and The Pillars of the Earth. The story is original, set long before the books and movies.
The multimedia franchise The Lord of the Rings will receive a new video game in two years. Daedalic Entertainment has announced that they have acquired the rights to create a new game based on the works of JRR Tolkien and films by Peter Jackson.
A new Gollum story, in video game format
Under the name of The Lord of the Rings: Gollum, the creators of Deponia and the adaptation of The Pillars of the Earth will tell us about a new series of events starring the character who found the One Ring. This story will try to be true to the spirit of the books. We can decide at various times whether to behave like Gollum or Smeagol, taking advantage of the fact that the character has two personalities in conflict. And it will be the first in a series of games that will extend the universe of The Lord of the Rings.
On platforms in which it will be released, it is known that it will arrive on PC. From the consoles it is not known because the CEO of Daedalic could only say that it will come out on the platforms that are relevant when the game comes out in 2021, so we will have to wait two years from now. We can expect it to arrive on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One assuming that if its successors come out, the former will stay alive for a few years.
We do not expect it to reach the Nintendo Switch due to possible console power problems. And it will be necessary to see if Google Stadia triumphs among the players and it is interesting for a linear game like this that it pays to bring the game to that platform. Now we only have to wait for details to be revealed, that the idea of an extended world of The Lord of the Rings is interesting, as shown by games like the RPG The Third Age.
