Rockstar Games acquires the team that made the GTA Roleplay mod

GTA Online is one of the cash cows for Rockstar Games, as they can generate much more money that way than just selling the game directly in stores. It's almost a casino it is part of that enormous amount of money that it generates. But that was for the people who stayed, because it wasn't uncommon for people to leave because money is hard to come by and there wasn't much else to do. But some roleplay mods, which allow users to embody characters from a city, and were a huge hit on Twitch, was something that made a lot of people return to GTA Online.

Rockstar Games has a curious relationship with mods, knowing that GTA San Andreas It has countless mods of all kinds, but they don't look favorably on mods in GTA V. Now it turns out that they are keeping an eye on fan creations if they are useful to them, because they have officially purchased the team that made the GTA Online FiveM mod. Now, will it mean anything for Grand Theft Auto VI?

A purchase suggests a roleplay mode for GTA VI

Rockstar games has onboarded the developers of FiveM to work on future games officially. FiveM and RedM offer online role-playing opportunities for both GTA Online and Red Dead Online. These mods have been the most popular among GTA Online players, and they were a way of offering content to streamers because it made it easier to take a different advantage of a game that they had already squeezed the most out of, and allowed for all kinds of multi-channel collaborations.

In a statement released today, Rockstar has announced that Cfx.re, the team behind these mods, officially joins Rockstar Games. Rockstar already took steps in this direction last year by expanding its policies to allow servers and role-playing communities in online titles.

Of course, this acquisition does not mean that FiveM or RedM will disappear. But it does suggest that an official RP mode would be implemented in future games. Of course, Rockstar is hard at work on Grand Theft Auto VI, which is expected to be released no later than March 2025 according to a tax report. It is not hard to think that official and dedicated role servers are part of the plan for the next game, because otherwise this acquisition would not be understood. In addition, it would be a way to attract users who are not interested in the traditional online mode.
