Future Bethesda games will come to PS5 "depending on what cases"

Bethesda's Starfield and The Elder Scrolls VI games may be coming to PS5. But nothing is certain at the moment.

In the early afternoon we saw the news that Zenimax Media, the parent company that encompasses Betehsda, id Software, Arkane Studios and more, had been bought by Microsoft. Now Bethesda is owned by Microsoft and all its games will come out yes or yes on Xbox and PC consoles, and will be part of GamePass.

What about Bethesda games on PS5 or Nintendo Switch?

With Zenimax now owned by Microsoft, games from Bethesda, Arkane and id Software belong to the Xbox family. Microsoft has a philosophy that the games it owns don't have to be tied to its consoles. That means that they can come out in others and there are several cases. There's Minecraft on PlayStation 4 and Nintendo Switch, and Ori and the Blind Forest and its sequel Ori and the Will of the Wisps has come out on Nintendo Switch.

For Bethesda games and others on PS5, it will be the same. Each game will be evaluated and can be released on PlayStation 5, Google Stadia or any other platform if they see it correct or make sense. That means future games like Starfield or The Elder Scrolls VI will be released on PS5. But it would be understandable if they don't. Or that they take a while to get out to get a bulk of sales linked to the Windows and Xbox series platforms.

There is also the case that Ghostwire Tokyo and Deathloop had a temporary exclusivity agreement on consoles with Sony for a year. Instead of breaking it unilaterally, Microsoft is going to respect it religiously even if that means lower sales for its versions of the Xbox series. From the looks of it, the purchase of Bethesda is not necessarily going to remove all Bethesda games from the PS5, but it is understandable that they want to prioritize the PC and Xbox series to power the GamePass that has 15 million subscribers.
