Assassin's Creed Odyssey players prefer Alexios over Kassandra
Assassin's Creed Odyssey for Xbox One, PC and PS4 allows you to choose the gender of the protagonist of the game. The difference between the two is minuscule, as they both have the same missions, dialogue options and romance. The only noticeable difference for the player is that the world will refer to our character in male or female and some story details that are interchangeable between characters.
Being able to cast a female main character was one of the main focuses of the game's publicity. We are at a time when we want to welcome all kinds of players and give the possibility that the protagonist could be a woman was a very important factor for many players.
Assassin's Creed Odyssey audiences prefer the male character over the female
During the months after Assassin's Creed Odyssey was announced at E3, Kassandra's preference over Alexios became very vocal on social media and various websites. Everything seemed to indicate that she was going to be the most popular option among players, but the result is just the opposite.
Ubisoft has been collecting game data from users and has been able to see that actually, Alexios is the character that players choose the most to star in the adventure. The difference between players who choose between Alexios and Kassandra is not exaggeratedly large, since approximately two out of every three games have been started with the male protagonist versus the female, but it does show a surprise regarding the reception he had after his announcement.
The game director tested user groups before launch and found that the distribution of choice between the two protagonists was very even. The director hoped that the final audience would prefer Kassandra, so knowing these results surprised him remarkably.
