Minecraft bans any hint of NFT or blockchain

After the initial passion for NFTs, blockchains and cryptocurrencies, it was time to implement them in real use cases. With the passion for metaverses, one might think that Minecraft would be a perfect example of a metaverse in which to enter NFT. It is already done and they have some established bases. It would not have been uncommon to see blockchain-powered NFTs ensuring that certain tool cosmetics, skins, verified usernames and more could take advantage of these technologies.

But it will not be possible, although for many it would have been a very obvious union. Mojang has already announced that they will not give any support neither to allow blockchains nor NFTs in the Minecraft ecosystem.

Minecraft will never have NFT

Mojang has drawn a line in the sand against NFTs in Minecraft. It says that integrating NFTs with the game is “usually something we won't support or allow«. The general objective of this update to the user agreement is «ensure that Minecraft remains a community where everyone has access to the same content.» Since the nature of NFTs is «create models of scarcity and exclusion", conflict with that principle.

To ensure that Minecraft players have a safe and inclusive experience, blockchain technologies are not allowed to be integrated within our client and server applications, nor is Minecraft game content such as worlds, skins, person items or other mods, are used using blockchain technology to create a scarce digital asset.

Mojang.

The update was prompted by the fact that numerous NFTs associated with Minecraft and play-to-earn servers are already available, They have taken advantage of a loophole in official policy and were dividing the community into “the haves and the have-nots«.

It also warns that some NFTs "U.Son reliable and pthey can finish costing the players who buy them«. This comes in coalition of several NFT projects that have turned out to be scams that did not intend to give any final result. Not because of the price of NFTs, but they never gave a game supported by NFTs or related NFTs.

The official Minecraft usage guidelines are being updated to address the matter in detail. All that is seen about NFTs is a total rejection, so NFTs associated with any game content, including worlds, skins, personal items or other mods, are strictly prohibited according to the user agreement. That huge block of text that appears before you continue playing already warns that there are no NFTs in Minecraft.

Mojang will be monitoring the evolution of blockchain technology to determine if it will ever enable safer experiences or other practical and inclusive applications in the game. It is possible that something is allowed in the blockchain, but not NFTs, although they could have a change of heart at any time.
