Nintendo Switch will be the console that almost all Japanese niche games go to
After the death of Vita, Nintendo Switch will be the console on which Japanese role-playing games and visual novels will triumph. There is a very dedicated audience for those games.
During its last years of useful life, the PlayStation Vita was praised as the ideal console for playing Japanese games such as visual novels or low-budget role-playing games with anime aesthetics. This made it survive for several years and have a very loyal following, who should now think about acquiring a Nintendo Switch according to a PQube representative.
Japanese niche games will be developed on Nintendo Switch
Sony has already stopped producing PlayStation Vita consoles and game cards, so these games with a smaller but faithful audience will have to find a replacement. PQube, a distribution company specializing in this type of game, commented that Nintendo Switch will be the console that will host these games for an otaku audience. He gave an example of the game Gun Gun Pixies that in Japan was exclusive to PS Vita and arrived in the West thanks to ports for Nintendo Switch as well as for PC.
Geraint Evans from PQuebe:
PlayStation Vita was vital for Japanese niche games to arrive. Japanese visual novels were first on PC because it was developed for them to be a flexible system. The arrival of Phoenix Wright helped too. They were consolidated in Vita as the console did not have as much attention from first-party games but an audience interested in Japanese games. That made it a very strong community specialized in Japanese niche games for otakus. In the case of Steins; Gate, it came out on PlayStation 3 but its sales were higher on Vita.
I am confident that the Vita audience will move to Nintendo Switch. The PC market is getting tougher and tougher, and it is not a problem of Japanese games but of the amount of content that there is as competition. On Nintendo Switch, sales are being very good. The first day we were afraid it would not work but then our games started to have very positive sales numbers
