This Nintendo Switch exclusive JRPG will have a sequel. It has nothing to do with the mobile title they announced a few weeks ago.
Octopath Traveler has become one of the most recommended titles for those who have an NIntendo Switch. Square Enix has been able to bring out with it the essence and ideas that made games like Final Fanatsy VI or Chrono Trigger much loved and remembered, with certain changes to reach new players and using modern technology. It has had a lot of sales and that translates into a future sequel.
Octopath Traveler will continue on Nintendo Switch
The million and a half copies of Octopath traveler prove that there are still players in turn-based RPGs. Not everything has to be action-packed or ultra-detailed graphics like Final Fantasy XV. It is also demonstrated by the good reception of Dragon Quest XI.
It was not one of the titles with the highest investment but it is seen that they have been able to recover their investment more than enough. Its producer Tomoya Asano has been able to confirm in Famitsu magazine that they already have a new installment for Nintendo Switch in development.
For now it is not known when it will arrive, but we imagine that it will take several months to be unveiled. The team is currently deep in the development of the prequel for mobile devices, which makes the exploration of the game somewhat more linear, and allows to use eight characters in combat. We do not rule out that before the launch of the sequel they bring us this prequel to Nintendo Switch, which does not have a release date outside of Japan, and it would be greatly appreciated if you allow international fans to enjoy that story. We will have to wait for announcements of that new installment of Octopath Traveler, possibly until next year.
