Overkill's the Walking Dead not coming to consoles
The shooter from the creators of PayDay based on The Walking Dead has canceled its arrival on consoles. The constant problems with Starbreeze and the poor reception of the game on PC could be the reasons that it does not reach consoles.
After years of waiting, Overkill's The Walking Dead has not convinced the PC public. The idea of a survival game in the world of the zombie franchise created by the team that made PayDay became very tempting. But the delays came and little by little the game entered a development full of problems.
A game that has disappointed on PC will not arrive on PlayStation 4 and Xbox One
Overkill's The Walking Dead arrived last November on Steam. There it reaps an assessment of mostly negative reviews due to the poor optimization and design of the game. Having rivals like Left 4 Dead 2 or PayDay 2 itself, the zombie game had nothing that made it stand out beyond using the franchise.
Add to that the financial problems of parent company Starbreeze. Weeks ago they were investigated by the authorities for tax evasion and handling inside information. They also had to return the publishing rights to the future System Shock 3 to the original developers. All of this stacks up as the main causes of Overkill's The Walking Dead not making its way to PlayStation 4 or Xbox One.
Several users have received messages that Sony is returning the money from the game's digital reserve after it has been canceled. For now neither Starbreeze nor Overkill have commented on this. But it would not be strange if the game does not reach consoles in the near future. It could be a long time coming when Starbreeze has fixed its tax problems or another company acquires Overkill and funds the development of a fully corrected version.
