Epic Games paid 9 million to have exclusive Control in its store

Control is exclusive to the Epic Games Store in exchange for nine million euros. Taking into account, there are more than 175 copies sold in advance.

With the game Control, which is getting a lot of following as a title made by the same team that made Max Payne, Alan Wake and other cult games, Epic Games has scored a point by making it exclusive to their store. on PC. It does not appear on Steam for a time to be determined. Now… for how much money?

Over 175 copies of Control sold on the Epic Games Store in advance

We know for a fact that the exclusivities of the Epic Games Store are paid for by a one-time payment that covers a quantity of copies sold in advance. The developers calculate how much they would have sold during the exclusivity time if they had taken it out on other stores like Steam or GoG.com, all so that the Epic Games Store has exclusive titles.

Not all games are worth the same. Phoenix Point received two million dollars. How much has Epic Games paid for Control and how much is it? The production company stated that it received from Epic Games about 9,49 million euros from Epic Games, which would represent the advance payment of the copies. Now, we take out the calculator.

Knowing that Control costs 60 euros to start, removing the 12% commission that Epic Games asks for, it leaves us about 52,8 euros per copy sold for the distributor, taxes apart. Dividing that amount by the declared payment, it gives us that Epic Games has advanced the sale of 179 copies. Rounding up, it gives us 734 copies, which is what 180 Games expected to sell of the game in all stores during its first few months. That amount of copies for an exit game is quite a lot considering piracy and the people waiting for the game to be on sale.

Of course, the game is also on consoles, which will also generate more sales. We know it cost about $ 20 to $ 30 million to develop according to estimates by 505 Games and Digital Bros. So Epic Games has paid for almost a third of the development in exchange for having it exclusively in their store. Will this decision have been profitable? It will be necessary to see if the game sells enough, but it is not a crazy amount of copies for a game from a developer with a huge number of followers.
