Ducktales: Remastered to be pulled from digital stores
Ducktales: Remastered will not be available to buy in digital stores starting this Thursday. Disney's license has expired and they don't want to renew it.
Ducktales on the NES was a well-loved title for those who ventured to buy games based on Disney licenses, usually developed by Capcom. In 2013 it had a remake developed by WayForward, the creators of Shantae; and received a good reception.
The Ducktales remake will not be available for purchase starting this Thursday.
The title in question did well what a remake should do: take the original game and give it some changes to eliminate its problems. They made the levels linear instead of cryptic and having to go around a lot. A different experience than the NES title but it represented the game well. They added a graphic section made from hand-drawn acetates and recovered the original voices of the series in their original version.
It came out on Playstation 3, Xbox One, Wii U, and Steam, but it never made the jump to next-gen consoles, possibly for the same reason they are pulling the game from digital stores: the license. It is possible that neither Disney nor Capcom want to renew the rights to continue selling this remake, so that from this Thursday you will not be able to buy Ducktales: Remastered. Those who have bought it will be able to download it whenever they want, but new licenses of the game will not be given. not being available for sale
With these games based on movies, series or other fictional characters that are not typical of video games, the withdrawal of the rights to keep them for sale implies that they will not be accessible to new players. And it's a shame because Ducktales: Remastered was a great platform game. Modern platforms have the original version of the NES game in the compilation The Disney Afternoon Collection, although its design has become outdated and it shows that they made us think that the game was longer than it really is.
