Redfall developers wanted Microst to cancel the game
Redfall is possibly one of the biggest video game disappointments we've had this year, which Not even being on Game Pass do people want to play. It did not live up to expectations and was met with a lukewarm reception upon release. Many wondered if it was really an Arkane game, and recently it has been seen that the creators were the first to not want that game.
A new report from the Bloomberg portal claims that even the team behind the vampire game had little faith in their success in the game from the start. Following Microsoft's acquisition of Zenimax in September 2020, some of Arkane's staff hoped that Microsoft might cancel Redfall so that they would allow it to be rebooted as a single-player game.
Neither Arkane wanted Redfall to come out as it is and they wanted it to be canceled or restarted by Microsoft
Microsoft stayed out of the process, and away from Arkane in general. The game, which was originally scheduled to release on Halloween 2022, would be released in May 2023 in an unchanged state from its original concept.
The Bloomberg report also claims that some longtime Arkane developers "were not interested in developing a multiplayer game and they ended up leaving en masse. He states that by the end of Redfall's development, approximately 70% of the Austin staff who had worked on Prey would no longer be at Arkane. Development of the game began in 2018, when Zenimax wanted to develop games that could generate revenue beyond initial sales. Something diametrically opposed to what made Arkane famous, which are immersive single-player simulators.
For Arkane, the concept of making a multiplayer title didn't make sense from the start. It is believed that when the concept was explained to them, there was widespread confusion: There were doubts as to whether the type of game they specialized in was technically possible in a multiplayer environment.
And it is that the game is very noticeable that it has been made by a study with no experience in these multiplayer games, and without the support of specialized studies. The future that holds for him is not yet known, because could be resurrected if they move development to a studio more specialized in multiplayer games so that it is at least a trump card in favor of Game Pass. Something similar happened to Sea of Thieves, which, far from being a console seller, manages to be a social hub for gamers.
