Rockstar launches its new exclusive launcher for its games. To promote its use, they give away GTA San Andreas, one of the classic games in the saga and it is still one of the most played.
The world of PC game launchers just got a little bigger, as Rockstar Games launched its own launcher today. Unlike Epic Games or Steam, which offer third-party games to boost sales, this is a platform for directly purchasing the studio's past titles. Rockstar is perhaps one of the biggest developers in history, with games like GTA V remaining one of the best-selling games even in recent weeks.
To entice users to visit the launcher, Rockstar is giving away Grand Theft Auto: San Andreas for a limited time. The classic action game, currently very popular, can be obtained simply by downloading and installing the Rockstar Launcher on Windows and "purchasing" it for €0. It will then be permanently added to your library.
A free game in the Rockstar launcher
The launcher appears to be still in its early stages, but it promises cloud saves and automatic updates. Games on sale at the time of this writing include more titles from Grand Theft Auto (strangely excluding GTA IV), LANoire, Max Payne 3, and Bully. GTA V Shark Cards can also be purchased directly from the store. This will give more money directly to Rockstar without having to go through Steam.
It can also scan users' PCs to detect any Rockstar games purchased from other launchers, such as Steam, and add them to the library. The Rockstar Games Launcher may also be where the company plans to release Red Dead Redemption 2 on PC at some point. Although the game hasn't been officially confirmed for the platform yet, leaks continue to surface, and a port is almost certain. This further fuels rumors of Google Stadia compatibility, similar to what Ubisoft would suggest.
