Sony PlayStation acquires Bungie, the creators of Halo and Destiny
Two weeks ago, we learned about the movement that was the acquisition of Activision Blizzard for almost 69.000 million dollars. Not even two weeks have passed since that day and now we know of a new great acquisition that is Bungie by PlayStation Studios.
Bungie is the company that created Halo, the special shooter franchise that put Xbox on the map and got Microsoft taken seriously as a console maker and video game publisher. Now they will belong to the PlayStation family, but they affirm that they will continue to have an independent and cross-platform spirit.
Bungie now belongs to PlayStation
This purchase has been made official through official PlayStation media announcements. Among the details of the acquisition it has been made clear that Bungie will continue to be the owner of all their intellectual properties and they will be able to publish their games wherever they want.
It is precisely in this multiplatform experience of offering a successful game as a service on numerous platforms that has prompted the purchase. Most likely both Destine 2 and future games made at Bungie could even appear on the Xbox series and Nintendo Switch if it could, but the profits will be accountable to Sony.
Everything indicates that Sony wants to have more games as a service and therefore has acquired Bungie, who managed to get rid of Activision's yoke and be able to carry Destiny 2 on their own. This acquisition means that Sony already has the benefits of Destiny 2 and those of any game that Bungie publishes even if they keep the intellectual properties, and to be able to use Bungie as a studio to develop new installments of games whose intellectual property is Sony, such as Killzone or Resistance.
