Sony will launch within a month its retro miniature console, the PlayStation Classic, which is literally the Play Station 1 but small (not so literally in terms of hardware but in terms of presentation and usefulness).
It will be sold for €99,99 and in technical aspects is almost identical to Nintendo's NES Classic and SNES Classic. Its game library is slightly more up-to-date, and its titles feature the graphical upgrade from 2D to 3D.
The console is visually adorable, a full-blown cute, it can be an incredible gift for those old school players who love it so much and beautiful decoration for a shelf of those full of old video games.
In terms of operation, it is identical to Nintendo devices, a carousel interface to select games and games.
Regarding the console in general, it's remained virtually unchanged in every aspect. The controllers are still wired, but now use a standard USB port , and the cable is long, measuring about 1.5 meters. Sony has made it clear that its controllers cannot be connected to a PC or a PS4; they are for the PlayStation Classic only.
As expected, there is no button on the controller that takes us to the menu as we are so used to today, so we will have to go directly to the device to exit a game and open another (something that good, we have to hold on but I would have preferred change in that regard because it is an emulator that could have it), it is not just a matter of this PlayStation Classic, in those of Nintendo Classic the same thing happens.
Luckily a company like 8bitdo offers us the solution of wireless controllers with retro Bluetooth controllers. Surprisingly Sony saw that problem in Nintendo devices and has not wanted to solve it.
The device will begin shipping on December 3, includes two drivers and some titles that support local cooperative.
