Sony and Facebook will not go to GDC 2020
Note that a few days ago Sony canceled its attendance at PAX East, another important video game event. The company seems not to want to risk and prefer not to go to the event due to the coronavirus. Facebook has joined and will not go to the video game developers event, also for fear of the virus.
Facebook has indicated that they will not go "due to great concern for the health and safety of our employees, partner developers and the GDC community. So the Facebook Gaming and Oculus divisions will not be attending the event.
Regarding Sony, the company highlighted that "we have made the difficult decision to cancel our participation in the Game Developers Conference due to growing concern about the COVID-19 coronavirus." So we will not see the new console or know what games they are working on.
Everything seems to indicate that if the situation in China does not improve, events will gradually be canceled. It seems that companies don't want to put workers at risk or workers don't want to put themselves at risk. It is not ruled out that brands start holding events behind closed doors or online.
