The first Steam Deck benchmark appears
Valve's Steam Deck will hit the market in December 2021 with its first units, but a Chinese user has managed to get hold of a development kit to publish the first Steam Deck benchmark. The user advises us that it is a development unit, so the performance of the final unit is likely to be different.
Steam Deck uses a custom AMD APU that unites Zen 2 and RDNA 2 microarchitectures on a single chip. It has a quad-core, eight-thread processor with clock speeds ranging between 2,4 GHz and 3,5 GHz. At the graphics end, the chip drives eight RDNA 2 compute units that clock between 1 GHz and 1,6 GHz. 16 GHz. The APU is accompanied by 5 GB of next-generation LPDDR5500-7 memory. Its 1280-inch LCD screen makes the Steam Deck have a resolution of 800 x 60 at 8 Hz in portable mode and up to 60K at 4 Hz or 120K at XNUMX Hz when connected in a dock.
This is the results of the first Steam Deck benchmak
The first game he tried was Shadow of the Tomb Raider, with the Steam Deck averaging 30 FPS on the highest graphics settings. When lowering the graphics, the average frame rate was around 36 FPS. Lowering the image fidelity even further resulted in a frame rate greater than 60 FPS.
In Doom (2016), the frame rate fluctuated around the 60 FPS mark on medium graphics settings. With a more demanding preset, the Steam Deck put out 46 FPS, and the gameplay was still considered smooth. With Cyberpunk 2077, Steam Deck was not so lucky. At the high preset, the frame rate ranges from 20 FPS to 30 FPS, and the frame drop was noticeable, but not tested at lower graphics settings.
DOTA 2 on the Steam Deck gave rates of up to 47 FPS at the highest preset and 80 FPS at the lowest preset. On the temperature of the Steam Deck testing these benchmarks, its rear was around 42,6 degrees Celsius and 29 degrees Celsius at the grips. In roughly three hours of playtime, the battery life went from 100% to 46%.
