Following the success of Tetris 99, Nintendo hopes to make more exclusive games for Nintendo Switch Online
People came and stayed to play Tetris battle royale. They hope to create more exclusive games from this service seeing that people maintain their subscriptions.
The Nintendo Switch online payment service, despite being one of the lowest priced, is one of those that contributes the least to players. It is mandatory to play online, but only a few titles are worth it; and it does not give free games every month. That's why they released Tetris 99, which was free but to play you need to pay for it online.
Tetris 99 is a success and they hope to repeat it with more games
In a recent question and answer session with investors, Nintendo President Shuntaro Furukawa appeared when asked how they will increase the number of subscriptions to Nintendo Switch Online. They currently have 9,8 million subscriptions sold, just a third of the 32 million consoles they have sold.
The answer to this is that they plan to repeat the Tetris 99 ploy of giving games that can only be enjoyed while subscribed. Like the NES game library to which they add three games a month, they see it as added value to sell subscriptions and plan to release more games of this type as an incentive.
Not surprisingly, they are thinking of releasing more games that have a strong online component to pay for. In June, Super Mario Maker 2 will arrive, which requires online functions to share levels and makes it a practically unlimited gaming experience. Although the investor's question made clear reference to free applications that require paying for Nintendo Switch Online. We can speculate with an application of games of the Super Nintendo and other free to play, but time will tell and we have to wait. Maybe they'll announce one of those games at E3.
