World of Tanks: Soon the game will receive Ray Tracing thanks to Intel oneAPI Rendering Toolkit

The World of Tanks game will soon receive a major update that will add Ray Tracing to the game, albeit in a fairly limited way.

Ray Tracing technology is here to stay and the game catalog with this technology is increasing. Wargaming, the developers of the game World of Tanks just announced that it will add real-time light ray tracing. So this free tank based game you will receive Ray Tracing. This will be possible thanks to the Intel oneAPI Rendering Toolkit.

Wargaming has said that this technology will arrive in World of Tanks with the next update of the Core motorcycle. Support will be provided for recurring rendering in addition to real-time light ray traces. To enjoy it we will need a DirectX 11 and DirectX 12 graphics. It can be easily enabled within the game's own configuration menu.

Ray Tracing is coming to World of Tanks game soon

Here's how the company has defined it: “With the introduction of our Ray Tracing (RT) technology, developed by Wargaming in close collaboration with Intel, we can recreate the 'main players' of our game with higher quality; its smallest details will cast super-realistic shadows when the sun arrives, immersing you even more in an atmosphere of tank combat and providing an even more enjoyable gaming experience ”

There are some important limitations in this implementation it will be used only "for intact vehicles that are in direct sunlight". Due to the focus of the game, we will be able to enjoy this technology for a short time. When players take the first damage, this technology will be 'disabled'. It will only be operational when the tanks have not yet received damage.

Intel oneAPI is a solution developed to switch between different computing platforms. Processors, graphics, FPGAs, and AI accelerators are included. This Toolkit is intended to “develop high-performance, high-fidelity, extensible, and cost-effective display applications through rendering libraries”
