World of Warcraft Classic: Suffered a major DDoS attack during its first hours of life
During the first hours of World of Warcraft Classic, a DDoS-type attack occurred, causing significant latencies and user disconnections.
One of the greatest video game franchises has been World of Warcraft, boasting millions of players. Blizzard recently relaunched the classic version of the game under the name World of Warcraft Classic . During the first few hours after launch, there were numerous problems, including long queues to access the servers. Furthermore, a DDoS attack caused gameplay issues.
It is not the first time and it will not be the last time that a DDoS attack has been launched against game servers. These types of attacks are launched to saturate systems and generate problems that can lead to losses. Sometimes they are vindictive attacks, especially on the websites of institutions and other times, people who get quite bored, as is the case.
DDoS attack on World of Warcraft Classic servers at launch
The attack appears to have targeted servers dedicated to this game. Naturally, players were severely impacted. World of Warcraft Classic users experienced high latency and server disconnections. Even access to Battle.net was overwhelmed by the attack.
“Some online services continue to be affected by a series of DDoS attacks resulting in high latency and disconnections,” Blizzard commented on its official Twitter account. “A part of our players have felt these unexpected effects, impacting their gaming experience. Thanks again for your continued patience "
An attack began last Saturday and that has been claimed by the Twitter account UkDrillas. No one knows who or who was behind the account. This same account issued a warning message 30 minutes before launching the attack. Blizzard took relatively little time to block these attacks. The Twitter account no longer exists and the messages have been deleted.
