WWE 2K22 will not have DLC due to the constant layoffs of the WWE
WWE 2K22 is expected to be released in March of next year, 2K's return to the genre of sports entertainment that is wrestling. There was no WWE 2K21 because of how badly WWE 2K20 was, and in order to get this delivery in good condition, instead of going out in November with Survivor Series as usual, its launch will be shortly before Wrestlemania, in March of next year. .
This change in terms was a very tough battle for 2K Games to win, since relying on a license requires approval from WWE. But relying on them has made a dent in the WWE 2K22 roster of wrestlers and with it the DLC packs they wanted to make.
WWE fires too many fighters and there is no DLC to do
Putting a bit of context, the WWE has since the beginning of the pandemic firing its fighters under the excuse of budget cuts by not having to tour around the world until a few months ago. Since 2K Games relies on active wrestlers to fill the WWE 2K22 roster of wrestlers, so many layoffs have resulted in two entire DLC packs having to be scrapped.
One of them was going to have Bronson Reed as the key fighter of the pack, but he was fired on August 6, just a month after leaving NXT North American Champion, one of the key titles of the development division of the company. Now WWE 2K22 is expected to be updated with new fighters during its life cycle, of which it is not yet known if it will be a year or more so as not to return to the cycle of annualized deliveries.
This model would allow the introduction of new fighters who have been hired or those who have promoted to the regular teams of RAW, Smackdown or NXT. An example of this would be Gable Steveson, who after winning the gold medal in amateur wrestling at the Tokyo 2020 Olympic Games, signed for WWE and it was announced that he will go directly to the RAW squad.
