Bohemia Interactive is pleased to announce the release of Update 2.0: Adventure Awaits for the open-world adventure game Ylands. This update comes after nearly three years of development, during which no fewer than 90 new features have been added.
Many of these improvements were made possible by community feedback, and nearly 9.000 bugs have been fixed. This has led to the game being reclassified from its initial " Sandbox " category to an " Adventure " according to Bohemia magazine.
Ylands gets an update that makes them a whole new game
The Ylands development team has spent the last almost 3 years changing the approach and perception of the game, undoing a number of mistakes made in the past. According to the developers, until the end of 2020, the game seemed to be moving in a similar direction to Roblox. But the active player base began to dwindle, with recent reviews on Steam dropping to nearly 40%. This forced them to rethink the goals of the game and repair the rifts between the game and its players. Ylands achieved an unprecedented score of over 80% recent reviews on Steam early on, and quadrupled its active player base.
In 2020 the 1.5 update arrived, which was quite well received. Its success motivated the development team, but also presented a new set of challenges, which they overcame by listening to community feedback. Through this feedback, Ylands was able to find his appropriate voice, direction, and genre. Since Update 1.5, the developers have:
- Released 7 new updates.
- Added 90 new features to Adventure mode.
- Created 438 new assets.
- Closed 4.048 pending tasks.
- Fixed 8.598 bugs.
The biggest update in Ylands history has been dubbed 2.0. It marks a new era in game development. With it, the following innovations are introduced:
- Story: Adds the first Ylands Campaign mode.
- Improved Tutorial: Better experience for the new player.
- Manual: Helps players navigate the game's features and introduces them to the history of Ylands.
- Combat Upgrades: More attacks and power to make combat more challenging and fun.
- Resources and Crafting: New interface that helps players craft literally anything.
- Generation of more diverse and varied terrain.
- New Main Menu and Shop: Simpler, less overwhelming and easier to use.
- Mobile experience: Quick start of the game with Google and Apple accounts, cross platform for PC and improvements in the user experience.
- Multiple gameplay and content improvements: Wind sailing, easier fast travel, new random encounters, etc.
