Viking announces 25TB and 50TB capacity SSD storage drives

Viking has surprised everyone with two very exclusive SSD units, which offer a capacity of 25TB and 50TB, but intended exclusively for Data Centers.

Solid state hard drives or SSDs have a small problem and that is the storage capacity, along with the price, they are still far from the price of a mechanical hard drive and not to mention the capacity. Today's SSDs are 7mm thick in the 2.5 ”form factor and have a tough competitor in the M.2. Viking, a fairly unknown company, has the solution and it is called UHC-Silo, which uses the 3.5 ”format, similar to that of mechanical hard drives, specifically with dimensions of 101.6x147x26.1mm.

The size of the units has been increased, to integrate more capacity and this unit has a total of 50TB and MLC-type memories have been used. These drives are intended for mass data storage and are a better solution for those using professional systems with large files. This unit offers us a 6Gbps SAS interface, which allows read speeds of 550MB/s and write speeds of 350MB/s, while random reading offers 60.000IOPS and random writing offers 10.000IOPS.

These units will arrive in 25TB and 50TB format, but it will not be available for the general market, since it has been developed for Data Centers and Cloud Store, basically. They have been developed to support a complete writing every day, for all 365 days in a period of five years, as its guarantee, which is 5 years. The price or availability of these brutal units has not been disclosed, but we should not wait for it, because it will only be sold in the professional sector and the price we should expect is or will be very high.
