Visa wants nothing to do with Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies
The CEO of Visa says that they have no intention of offering support through credit and debit cards to Bitcoin and cryptocurrencies, since they consider that their fluctuating value affects the value of the product or good acquired.
A few days ago we echoed the rectification of Jamie Dimon, CEO of JP Morgan, something very interesting, since he had posited himself as a firm detractor of this cryptocurrency and has recognized his mistake. Visa, the giant of credit and debit cards, is in the same and a few days ago they deactivated cards from several credit card platforms. Visa refuses to directly support Bitcoin and other cryptocurrency, Visa CEO Alfred Kelly himself said during a recent interview on CNBC.
"At Visa we will not process cryptocurrency-based transactions," he says. 'We will only process transactions in fiat currency.' Kelly has also commented that the problem of Bitcoin and its value, which fluctuates rapidly and on this point has said: 'People want a fair exchange of value when they are buying something, so if it costs $ 100, I want to pay $ 100' , has explained in the interview.
He further adds that, 'I don't see him as a player in the payment system'. 'My opinion is that Bitcoin is a product that someone could invest in.' He also adds that 'Depending on when a person invested in Bitcoin, in the last three months, due to the intense volatility of the currency, someone could have made a lot of money.'
Visa has recently terminated the agreement with Wave Crest, a Gibraltar-based digital payment processing company, which disables debit cards for BTC and other cryptocurrencies. All cryptocurrency debit card service providers, including TenX, Xapo, Bitwala, BitPay or CryptoPay, have been affected by the Visa move.
It is not the first time that Visa is very reluctant with cryptocurrencies, but competitors such as MasterCard are beginning to be interested in this market, it is more, recently, the credit card company and due to it has joined the Ripple association, to experiment through cross-border capital transfers quickly, safely and with low commissions.
