Walmart removes violent video games from its TVs but continues to sell guns

Walmart, one of the largest chains in the US, says it will not show violent games on its store televisions. A few aisles later, customers will still be able to purchase pistols and other weapons.

The United States recently suffered two mass shootings by supremacists that took the lives of dozens of people in Dayton and El Paso. As is already their custom, they have once again blamed video games for mass shootings instead of looking at what their country has that prevents others from having mass shootings against civilians, such as access to weapons by civilians. The Walmart chain of stores believes that video games are the main factor and is going to stop displaying violent video games in its stores.

No violent games on Walmart televisions

No, it does not mean that they will stop selling violent video games. That would mean stopping making money from sales of titles like the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare and it's something they don't want to afford. You just won't be able to see those violent games on TVs and demo booths at Walmart stores.

But curiously in those same stores it is possible to buy hunting weapons and pistols. You only need to bring an ID, a gun permit, and money in order to have a new gun and ammunition.

There are dozens of studies that say that violent video games are not related to shootings and neither are mental health problems or the origin of the murderers. More and more cases show that it is a mix between easy access to weapons by the civilian population and the rise of supremacist, sexist and xenophobic ideologies. Regarding ideologies, actions are already being taken on social networks to avoid spreading these ideas and messages, but the problem of easy access to weapons is one that a large part of the population does not want to solve because it would imply leaving aside a symbol of freedom and identity. In addition, the arms industry would lose billions of dollars. You just have to see the headline of this news: Walmart, the largest chain of US stores prefers not to advertise violent games instead of removing weapons from its catalog, because they prefer a feeling of doing something instead of facing the trouble.
