Ubisoft has delayed Watch Dogs Legion and several more games to the next fiscal year. It may be related to the poor reception of The Division 2 and Ghost Recon Breakpoint.
Ubisoft announced a new installment in the Watch Dogs franchise at its E3 conference . Far from generating apathy, it sparked considerable interest among players by presenting the idea of playing as any inhabitant of a London dominated by extreme technological surveillance, and these inhabitants will possess special abilities derived from their past and hobbies.
A major delay for Ubisoft
At a recent shareholder conference, Ubisoft announced that it has had to delay Watch Dogs Legion to the next fiscal year. That means that since the next fiscal year begins in April 2020, the game will not be available until that month begins.
Watch Dogs Legion was scheduled to release on Xbox One, PC, Playstation 4, and Google Stadia at the end of March. Since it is a delay, it is not likely that they have delayed it for a week or two, but most likely it will not come out until the month of May. The development team wanted to calm those who were expecting the game a bit and have said that they will take advantage of the additional development time so that the function of making us can play with any non-enemy NPCs that we want is really well implemented.
We think this is because they'll want to turn the game into a kind of games-as-a-service model, and having several games of this type released in quick succession has meant that games like The Division 2 and Ghost Recon Breakpoint have sold less than the French company expected. It's likely that, having seen these results, they'll want to space out their releases next year to avoid cannibalizing sales and give all their games room to breathe and sell.
