Intel Optane 905P drives listed in the United States
The new Intel Optane 905P units, the new units based on 3D XPoint memories, have been listed in a US store and little else is known about these units.
Intel's units for storage, called Optane, based on 3D XPoint memories developed by Intel itself, are far from optimal units in terms of price. These new memories wanted to retire SSDs and even RAM, due to high transfer speeds, low latency and persistent storage, but we are far from reaching this point. While some really interesting price / performance units arrive, the Intel Optane 905P units have arrived, which have already been listed.
NewEgg this past weekend has added the Intel Optane 905P drives. These new units will arrive in two versions, one in 2-inch U.2.5 format, which will offer compatibility with all current equipment. These units will have a capacity of 480GB and the price of these is 658 $. The second model is a PCI Express card, which will have a capacity of 960GB and has been listed for a total of $ 1.602.
Right now the performance of these units has not been revealed, nor is it known which controller they will use, if they will have greater durability than the current units or other improvements at the hardware level. The little that is known is that the consumption of these units will go from 5W of the current units to 7W of these Optane 905P and the operating temperatures go from 0-75ºC to 0-85ºC, also improving the temperature of use.
The biggest problem currently with Intel Optane drives is the price of these, much higher than SSDs, but we remember that the first solid state hard drives cost an arm and a leg with very low capacities.
