Unboxing ASUS VG278QR

We started the review with the box of this ASUS VG278QR monitor. We see that it is black and that some of the features of this monitor are indicated. The truth is that the box has no particularity, except that it has a handle to transport it easily.

Inside we find an HDMI cable, a jack connector for audio, the power transformer, the manuals and the monitor. We have to indicate that the cable that goes from the transformer to the house socket is not normative, it has a specific connector at the transformer point. This cable is not difficult to find in the market, but it is a pity that it does not have the conventional connector of the power supplies.

We would like to dwell a bit on the transformer of this monitor. The truth is that we were surprised by how extremely compact and light it is. Normally for a gaming monitor we would expect something coarser and heavier, but in this case we have had a pleasant surprise. As is logical, this transformer has all the existing security certificates.

One of the most interesting points is the base of this gaming monitor, which is out of the ordinary. The first thing that stands out is that the screw is at the base and is anchored to the monitor arm directly. This is because the base is rotatable, it allows you to move the monitor to the left or right, as we are interested. Something that is not common and that we find a very interesting aspect.
ASUS VG278QR Design

Something that has caught our attention is that the rotation to the left and right is through the base. Normally the rotation is at the anchor point of the screen and the arm, but ASUS has brought it to the base. This allows us to make a more precise and delicate movement. Without a doubt, it is one of the great aspects of this gaming monitor.

The back of the monitor allows the screen to be tilted up or down as desired. Also, we can remove the arm to anchor it to a VESA 100 mount, which is the industry standard.

Indicate that this monitor is designed for gaming so the natural position is horizontal. But this monitor also allows its rotation 90º for an installation in vertical format. This can be interesting for those who work or study, since in addition to playing we can have more screen travel to work.

We have in the right frame the buttons of the different menus, as well as the power button. To avoid getting confused, each button is silkscreened as part of its specific function. In addition, in the lower part of this gaming monitor, quite discreetly, we have the status led.
ASUS VG278QR Features
ASUS VG278QR connectivity

We start with the power connector, essential for the gaming monitor to work. The truth is that this monitor has a ridiculous consumption, of only 26 watts being connected, with a maximum annual consumption of 38kWh. Hence, the dimensions of the transformer of this monitor are so small.

In addition, the ASUS VG278QR has a DVI-D port, a connector that is no longer in use. Then we have an HDMI 1.4 port (this type of cable is added) and a DisplayPort 1.2 port. As always, the best possible connector is the DisplayPort, although everyone can use whatever they like.
Finally at the top we have two jack connectors. The green one is a jack to connect headphones and the black one is to connect the sound of the computer. This monitor has two built-in speakers, hence it has jack connectors.
ASUS VG278QR menus

Once inside the monitor, we are going to look at the menus that this gaming monitor integrates. The conventional one, to call it somehow, is the one designed to configure general elements. This includes:
- GameVisual
- Blue light filter
- Colour
- Image
- Sound
- Video input
- System configuration
- Saved profiles

Then we have ASUS 'own GamePlus menu that offers different elements. This menu allows you to practice your crosshair, add a timer, add a FPS counter and align the screens.

Finally we have the GameVisual menu. This menu is also present within the general menu of the monitor, but this is quick access. It has been isolated so that we do not have to look for it among the rest of the general menu options. Allows you to change the screen mode for the most common games, entertainment (cinema mode) or editing (sRGB mode)
