ASRock would disprove that Kaby Lake and Skylake motherboards were compatible with Coffee Lake processors

ASRock would deny that Intel Coffee Lake processors were compatible with motherboards intended for Kaby Lake and Skylake processors, just the opposite of what was originally promised.

The new Intel processors, the ones to come, the Coffee Lake, will make use of the LGA 1151 socket and in principle it was said that they would be compatible with motherboards for Intel Skylake processors and for Kaby Lake. This socket is two years old and was born in 2015 with the Skylake, lengthening in the Kaby Lake, which with a BIOS update, can be installed on a motherboard with Intel 100 Series chipset. The Coffee Lake should be able to install on motherboards with Intel 200 Series and Intel 100 Series chipsets, but ASRock has said something different.

ASRock has reportedly said that the new Coffee Lake will not be compatible with Intel 200 Series and Intel 100 Series chipset motherboards. We do not know if this is extrapolated to all motherboards of all manufacturers because Intel has done so or it will be ASRock who does not offer support, although there is another possibility, that this information is momentary, because they do not have compatible BIOS at the moment . It's a tweet, there's not much we can do right now.

This is a step back for Intel, since the company in principle would have reported on the compatibility between motherboards of different generations depending on the socket. It would leave it behind in compatibility with respect to AMD Ryzen processors, who already said that in the coming years, it will support processors with socket AM4, although it was not specified by AMD, if there would be backward compatibility. There is some time until the Coffee Lake processors arrive and this information may be confirmed or disproved, so for now, we will be a little cautious about that.

      1. They are on equal terms, it is more the 7820X has more single core IPC if it does not work for games ...

      2. Ah but when they compared the Ryzen 7 1800X to the i7 7700K they didn't say that the 1800X wasn't for gaming, that hypocrisy.

      1. It is not a Xeon that is focused on servers, therefore it can be compared, more if they are 8 cores and 16 threads both. And I didn't see anyone saying the same as you when comparing the Ryzen 7 1800X to the i7 7700K

        1. With none, but it is not necessary.
Right now Ryzen 7, Kaby Lake and Skylake-X compete with their previous generations, especially Skylake-X.
AMD has achieved a range of processors that in an ideal world should be the automatic choice for anyone who wants the computer to play and work, without ever needing the performance of Kaby Lake (for having a monitor and gpu that requires that extra power to take advantage of it) or Sky Lake-X (for example, for very long-term model behavior predictions).

That at this point in the movie AMD has been able to reach Ryzen is something that speaks very well of it, but above all, of its future.
For now, let's not go crazy

          1. So if we don't compare it to any, why say that Intel is better than games and blah blah?

Why was the €7 R1800 500X compared to a 7GHz I7700 5K to make Intel benefit and say it performed better in games? Oh, but when Intel releases its latest 8/16 processor to really compete with this R7, the comparison is not valid, because it performs less in games and in almost any professional task that is not optimized only for Intel processors?

Because it consumes much more, does it heat up much more? Do they fill the OC by putting a very poor quality paste in the HIS? ...

For now, Intel is going crazy and does not even know what it is doing, it is what it has to be 7 years without clear competition.

          2. You say I just married my wife ... to buy things I can have more or less sympathy for a company, but I usually try to buy according to my needs and budget.
And I don't think Intel has the capacity to get that processor out as a reaction to Ryzen, and that would also be bad news, it would mean that the distance between the two is enormous.
As I tell you above, my humble opinion is that since Ryzen came out, there are real options in all consumer ranges and right now AMD is positioned to continue competing from you to you in the medium and long term without making extra efforts as before.
But as it is, the i7 7700K is still the best processor from a gaming performance point of view.
Which is different from being the best processor for everyone. Very different.

  1. Fuck what a bitch, and I do not expect to buy another processor for 3 or 4 years, because it comes from fucking mother xD (irony)

    1. You should see your Intel sold before when you could sell them at a good price and go to Ryzen thanks to AMD, Nvidia from my 1600 to 4Ghz xdd

      1. Trade my i7 for a Ryzen? I want it to play and with this bug I have plenty of computer, I do not work with the PC it is not worth it and in 3 or 4 years I will see that it is worth it.

        1. That's why you tell people that it is the best to play and they pay you € 300 as in my case. Then you get a cooler cheaper processor 220 that cost me and with more future because seen what I saw with Intel ..

          1. Seen what I've seen with Intel with the new processors next year with 10nm, a brutal performance is coming, so it seems, for now I tell you that I have plenty of PC and I can throw myself with this 6 years without problems, I could catch a 1800x and I caught the i7 for what I need it to be fulfilled, if I wanted to catch a Ryzen, I would buy it xD

PS; it seems I'm lucky but mine doesn't heat up much 😀 it seems like it comes with white chocolate Nutella and doesn't go above 62 degrees in the summer in the south 😀 with a 6 year old heatsink (30 euros).

          2. Well, nothing that lasts long xd mine does not pass me from 51 playing to 3.8

          3. It depends on the heatsink and where you live, and if it comes on less frequently, that's also normal, but don't worry, it'll last and nothing will happen to it with the temperature 😀 thanks.

          4. I already know about Murcia at 35 + - ambient at 37-40 in idle and max 51 playing, passing the cinebech at 62ºC.

          5. Yes, but I have it in idle mode without making noise and so I can easily run it at 4Ghz 1.4V without temperature problems, I changed it for my Noctua NH-D14 because I sold it with my 4790K since the one I bought didn't have a heatsink and at first it wasn't worth it for me since it didn't have the AM4 mounts and I saw this cooler on sale for €90 and I said it's my time haha it works perfectly, it's missing RGB to my liking.

  2. I hope this is a misunderstanding or simply that Intel has not had the leeway to maintain compatibility.
I'm hopeful that one of the improvements Ryzen will bring to the market is increased socket longevity.

    1. The tweet is from ASRock and it is still not well expressed and it may be that at the moment they do not have a BIOS that allows backward compatibility, but some have taken it as that no motherboard on the market will be with an Intel 100 chipset and Intel 200 will be compatible with these processors and that nobody has said, what's more, Intel has already said that there will be compatibility of said chipset with Coffee Lake. I am more inclined to ASRock right now not having compatibility than something else.
