A Chinese video replicating the LK-99 turns out to be fake

The LK-99 room-temperature superconductor , if real, would be one of the biggest advances we could see in many scientific fields. For now, it's in the replication phase , and only if enough laboratories confirm or refute it will we be able to say whether it exists or if it's just a hoax.

That has not prevented people on their own, with access to laboratory material, from trying to replicate it on their own, with the occasional video in between. One of them claimed to be real, but the author has confirmed that it was a fabrication.

No, a video confirming the LK-99 superconductor has not come out

The video in question allegedly originated from the Beijing University of Science and Technology. It showed a small black substance floating in the air while following a magnet. According to the video's creator, he confirmed that he " did it to attract attention ." He saw that there was a lot of interest and that people would search for it, and the experience taught him that he should be more careful about what he posts.

The video had a very "homemade" look, and it looked like someone who doesn't know how to focus or frame something with a mobile camera. The angle chosen is strange and overall it's a bit imprecise. It could be intentional to hide the flaws and the imprecision of the hoax, or it could simply be someone who wasn't good at filming and didn't take much consideration into consideration that someone must see something there.

Currently, there are two other videos circulating showing the supposed levitation of LK-99. They haven't been taken down or refuted. These videos come from Huazon and Wuhan universities. But what's important is that, for now, LK-99 hasn't been confirmed or refuted in laboratory tests . That's the job of independent scientific teams, and we'll see if we have a major revolution in the field of superconductors, or if it's just another hoax, since it wouldn't be the first attempt to claim a room-temperature superconductor has been found.
