Intel already begins sending engineering samples of Alder Lake CPUs

One of the biggest issues for Intel today is Intel's lag with 10nm lithography. During the presentation of accounts to the shareholders, new details of the new Alder Lake hybrid CPUs were revealed. It has been indicated that different engineering samples are already being distributed among the partners, preparing the launch in 2021.

Next year the launch of Intel Alder Lake processors, the company's first hybrid processors, is expected. These processors will combine low-power cores and high-power cores. These will also be Intel's first desktop processors to use 10nm lithography, which is many years late.

Intel Alder Lake CPU Engineering Samples Distributed

We are now sampling our 2021 CPUs for Alder Lake customers, and will be sampling our Sapphire Rapids data center CPUs later in the fourth quarter. Both will offer significant capabilities enabled by our six pillars of innovation, including our enhanced SuperFin [10nm] technology.

Bob Swan, CEO of Intel

The Alder Lake architecture promises to bring heterogeneous multi-core design to x86 processor design. The maximum for these new processors would be 16 cores per chip, combining low-power cores and high-power cores. Intel has highlighted that these new processors belong to the performance segment.

We are advancing our hybrid architecture significantly with a focus on performance. We are working on the next generation of hardware, optimized for performance and taking advantage of everything without problems. Alder Lake will not only be great for its performance, it will also be our best performance per architecture in watts.

Raja Koduri, Intel Chief Architect.

For these processors the 10nm Enhaced SuperFin, the 4th generation of 10nm lithography will be used. This lithography was initially developed for data center chips as they offer improved power consumption and higher frequency.
