AMD graphics will use memories from Micron and Samsung
Leaked that the new GDDR6 memory for the AMD RX 5700 XT will be manufactured by Samsung and by Micron, without specifying much more.
More information is being known regarding the new RX 5700 XT from AMD. Both this and the RX 5700 implement GDDR6 memories, leaving behind the HBM2 memories. The commitment to HMB2 has not gone exactly well and has caused many problems. Implementing GDDR6 should solve heat dissipation issues and lower the price. For the RX 5700 XT memory from two manufacturers will be used.
Through a TechPowerUp leak where the RX 5700 XT vBIOS appeared (no longer there), two memory codes were seen. On the one hand we have the Samsung K4Z80325BC and on the other hand we will have the Micron MT61K256M32.
The RX 5700 XT will use Samsung and Micron memory
We must emphasize at this point that NVIDIA already used Micron memories for the RTX Turing launched last year. The result was not the best, since especially the RTX 2080 Ti had serious problems. Due to the thermal limit of the memories, problems were generated that ended up spoiling the graph. To solve the problem, it was switched to Samsung memories.
In addition to the problems discussed, Micron memories tend to be worse for overclocking. Those of Samsung are left to touch a lot more and the frequencies can be adjusted better. We will see if all these problems do not end up taking their toll on AMD.
It is unknown at the moment how these memories will be distributed. Microns are likely to stick for the assembler model and Samsung for the AIB models. When they reach the market and the reviews begin, then we will see what happens and which graphics carry which memories.
Likewise, manufacturers and brands should specify the type of memory on the box or on the product sheet. Many are sure that before buying you want to know what memories they have. This would prevent many from running into performance issues or even broken graphics.
