Tim Cook, CEO of Apple, calls for a strong and immediate correction from Bloomberg on the issue of China's spy chip
Apple CEO Tim Cook is really upset with Bloomberg and during an interview asks for an immediate and very clear rectification.
Without a doubt, this year is being the worst in history for computer security and user privacy. Facebook, Specter, Meltdown, routers and the list is practically endless, adding to this the appearance of a supposed spy chip from China on Supermicro motherboards that have gone to companies as important as Amazon or Apple. The case uncovered by Bloomberg talks about a chip destined to steal industrial secrets and they have mentioned several brands. Tim Cook, CEO of Apple has spoken about these claims.
Tim Cook wants Bloomberg to back down on the news of China's spy chips.
Apple's top official has said they have never found a malicious chip or hardware tampering inside the company's servers. Bloomberg for his part is not willing to retract this and they are sticking with the version given and this is upsetting Cook and causing his company to lose millions, literally.
During an interview offered by Cook to an American medium, he wanted to make it absolutely clear that there is nothing true in the story published by Bloomberg. You have requested in the interview that this medium retract the information, stressing that this medium must do the right thing and acknowledge that they have been completely wrong. The truth is that they are very harsh statements that make very clear the anger that reigns in the American company.
A few hours after the information was published, the Cupertino company already came to the fore to say that this was totally false. Despite the innumerable communications from all parties, this medium continues in its thirteen and does not intend to rectify, on the contrary, they assure that they contacted the aforementioned companies to obtain more information about the case.
Is a spy chip possible?
There is nothing impossible, but we must bear in mind that it should have access to communication or what is the same, ability to send data over the internet, encryption capacity and data hiding so that the breach was not detected, ability to computing and feeding.
There are many elements that make the possibility difficult and limited, since they should have someone developing the motherboards and creating a point where to install it giving access to all this communication and not going through the chipset or processors (for servers they have shields of hardware security)
The thing seems to be taken from a crime novel or science fiction, why fool us, but who knows if in the end we are facing a reality or before a story of the most crazy and bizarre that they have sneaked into Bloomberg.
