HyperDisk, a small 45 gram external SSD that is on Kickstarter
Currently SSDs are at a really affordable price, among others, because NAND Flash memories have dropped in price. The smartphone fever has passed and that benefits us all. This allows other very interesting solutions to be developed, such as HyperDisk. And is that this extremely compact SSD drive is available on Kickstarter and offers very interesting features.
Due to the decline in smartphone demand and the increase in layers, we have SSDs at fantastic prices. A 1TB SSD can now be found for under €100 (if you're flexible with speeds). They're advancing so rapidly that mechanical hard drives are becoming obsolete.
HyperDisk, a pocket SSD
The bankable unit through Kickstarter offers us USB 3.1 Gen.2 connectivity with a transfer speed of up to 1GB / s. This HyperDisk drive has a capacity of up to 2TB and a total weight of 45 grams.
The trick is that they use an M.2 SSD 2240 drive inside an aluminum case. An ingenious solution that also allows for easy repair in the future. Note that to date the 2240 units had a capacity of up to 512GB. What they have achieved is to quadruple the capacity of these units.
For this they have been helped by NAND Flash chips of the QLC type, something ingenious. Although this project has a little criticism from users. Some think it's two 2240TB 1 drives in RAID format for the 2TB drive. Each of the faces would have a 512GB chip and hence they get the 2TB.
If we want the 512GB HyperDisk model, we will have to contribute about 78 euros. For the 1TB model we must contribute 127 euros and for the 2TB model we must contribute 209 euros. There are very few units left and it is that of less than 10.000 euros to finance the project they have already raised more than 480.000 euros.
Well, they've ripped us off ... after more than a year waiting they haven't even sent us the product, nor do they want to return the money, nor does the kickstarter show their face, nor is the status of the project updated since May ... SSD and they are waiting for it to go down.
