Yesterday, August 9, Seagate broke the record with a 60 TB SSD.
Can you imagine the amount of movies, music, photos, etc. What could we fit into a single 60 TB SSD like this?
To give you an idea, we could store up to 12.000 DVDs — and this number would multiply if we were talking about AVI or MP4 files — or more than 10.000.000 high-quality songs or images. Impressive.
But this is not all, there are more and better.
It turns out that this type of mass storage disk uses SSD technology , and its advantages over traditional disks are, to say the least, remarkable:
- They do not emit noise.
- Very resistant as there are no moving parts.
- And with a significantly lower consumption.
It surprises and attracts attention, as sometimes the advances make jumps a little strange and illogical.
Until yesterday , Samsung held the record for hard drive storage with an SSD boasting up to 15 TB of capacity and a bargain price of $10.000 . But just over a year later, yesterday, Seagate unveiled an SSD that quadruples the capacity of the previous record holder.
If the increase in capacity is surprising, the price is even more surprising.
Seagate has not yet given an official price for it, but rumors say it will be priced around $5.000.
Isn't it incredible? It quadruples the last storage record, and the price is expected to be almost half that of its competitor Samsung.
Let's keep investigating what else this new Seagate album offers us.
The designers of this device, concerned that this disk might become too small, give us the possibility of upgrading it, increasing its capacity up to 100 TB.
However, we must consider that these discs, at the moment, are designed for large companies and web servers, in fact this disc will be marketed only for companies and will likely be for next year 2017.
End users will have to wait five years or another for these wonders to become as affordable as current hard drives, which are what most of us work with.
So nothing, to wait touches.
