AMD Navi 21 would have a GPU twice the size of the RX 5700 XT

The year 2020 in terms of hardware will be highly moved in the world of hardware. The year is expected to start strong with a presentation at CES 2020 of a host of hardware. While this is happening, rumors have appeared regarding AMD's Radeon RX based ones. The Navi 21 silicon would be based on the 7nm + lithography and RDNA2 architecture.

New information suggests that the Navi 21 silicon will be twice the size of the Navi 10. The Navi 10 GPU measures 251 mm² , while the Navi 21 silicon would measure 505 mm² . Vega 20 had dimensions of 331 mm² and a total of 13.2 billion transistors.

The first data of the AMD Navi 21 appear

Doubling the GPU die size could have two reasons. The first is that it directly doubles the power of the RX 5700 XT, placing it between NVIDIA's RTX 2080 and RTX 2080 Ti. The second possibility is that this new GPU implements dedicated hardware for ray tracing.

Little else is known about this new silicon by the company, the frequencies not being disclosed. Rumors indicate that 12GB to 16GB of GDDR6 memory will be implemented better than current versions of VRAM memories. They could implement a 384-bit or a 512-bit interface. The TDP of this graphics card will become a maximum of 300W, increasing with respect to the 225W of TDP of the RX 5700 XT.

Note that these new graphics cards will have the difficult task of competing with the NVIDIA Ampere. These GPUs will be based on 7nm lithography, which will increase transistor density and energy efficiency. Although AMD is doing well, it is still a bit far from NVIDIA.
