The new 802.11ay WiFi standard will allow transfer speeds of up to 176Gb / s

The specifications of the new 802.11ay WiFi standard have been revealed, a new WiFi standard that offers us a transfer speed of 176Gb / s in four simultaneous channels mode.

Today's WiFi technology is essential, in all spaces. Shopping centers, bars and restaurants and many public spaces offer free WiFi connectivity and that it is improved and the evolution of technology is essential. The latest revision is the IEEE 802.11ay, which has allowed a speed of 176GB / s. This enables high-speed data transfer and high-bandwidth network connectivity, but is primarily intended for wireless display connectivity.

This new 802.11ay WiFi protocol is a WLAN that unifies several 802.11 networks with several WLANs. It has a working frequency of 60GHz with transmission speeds of 20-40Gb / s and a transmission radius of 300-500 meters. It may be that this new protocol offers the possibility of joining channels and MU-MIMO technologies. It should start to hit the market this year and it will not be a full IEEE 802.11 protocol, this new 802.11ay version, but will be an improvement over the current 802.11ad system.

As a great novelty with respect to 802.11ad that offers a maximum bandwidth of 2.16GHz, this new 802.11ay protocol allows four channels with a maximum bandwidth of 8.64GHz. A MIMO system is added with a maximum of four channels. The total speed of a single channel is 44Gb / s, while if the four channels are joined it goes up to 176Gb / s. A higher order modulation has been integrated, which could go up to 256-QAM.

During the month of January of this year, version 802.11a and 0.1 was launched, but version 0.2 of this protocol is expected to arrive in March and version 1.0, the first complete and functional version, will be launched in July of this year.
