The company GALAX has presented PCIe and M.2 SSD units, which will have a PS50008-E8 controller
GALAX is especially known in the market for offering high-end graphics cards, based on NVIDIA GPUs. We have seen how in recent years Palit, which is the mother company of GALAX, a renowned manufacturer of graphics cards, decided that GALAX should expand its range of products with SSD drives and RAM memory modules. Well, at an event in China, the GALAX company has unveiled the industry's first SSD drives to use the Phison PS50008-E8 controller.
As with many other brands on the market that have recently hit the market, GALAX relies on Phison in this regard, as it buys the memory controllers and firmware. The units they have presented are 120 and 240 GB based on MLC NAND memories. The first one uses the PS3109-S9 controller and the second unit has the PS3110-S10 controller and there will be one unit that will have the JMicron controller. In addition, in the coming years the range of products for desktop computers will be expanded, with new SSD units with at least two options based on the Phison PS50008-E8 unit and Toshiba 3D NAND memories.
This presentation includes M.2-2280 drives and PCIe 3.0 x interface storage drives. The PS50008-E8 controller is compatible with NVMe 1.2 specifications, supporting four NAND channels and DDR3 / DDR3L DRAN buffer, AES-256 encryption, as well as a new Phison error correction algorithm called StrongECC. This controller is compatible with MLC and TLC NAND Flash drives.
We don't know when these drives will hit the market, but thanks to this new controller, we'll enjoy more powerful SSD drives, with read and write speeds. The forecasts are that they will arrive in mid-2017 and before they reach the market, it is foreseeable that all the data of these units will be revealed.
