Valve confirms its SteamVR headstet will be available soon
SteamVR and its OpenVR API have been designed so that many users and companies can use them. However, the only gadget that has done so and is now available on the market is the HTC Vive. both the OpenVR API and SteamVR tracking technology. Valve's Joe Ludwig has confirmed that 500 companies have signed up to use motion tracking technology. This means that in the future there will be a variety of VR headsets available that use the same tracking technology and can be used with the same collection of VR accessories, which is a great advantage for users.
It has also been announced that Valve is about to create a new production line for its SteamVR / HTC Vive Base, which will use a new design but will have the same level of precision and with much lower production costs. Once this new production line is available, the price of the HTC Vive and future SteamVR could be reduced, great news for all those who want to access virtual reality but cannot because of its high cost.
